Oh, you are TOO kind, John! But, honestly, this is the part I admire:
"Her easy going style was always totally nonjudgmental, merciful, and joyful. She had respect for us and we respected her in return... She would come through the door proclaiming that she had the best kids in the world whether or not we had done any house work at all...She never had a problem with our friends being there when she got home. She genuinely welcomed everyone at any time with her attitude of generous listening and “the more the merrier.”
This might be my inward philosophy, but some days my outward attitude is pretty far from it.

I can't honestly see what you find more inspiring about them than who you are now. Maybe you do have a long way to go, but we all do - even they do.
From where I sit, what you're doing and the mother you are is great!
