Springtime books and nature table: Birds and eggs

I've been inspired by so many bloggers and their seasonal tables, but I'd been short-sighted as far as what space to use for our own. I finally cleared off the console behind the sofa -- how obvious! I moved some picture frames onto the t.v. cabinet, so I could put out some spring things where the boys can actually see them!

One of our favorite springtime books is An Egg Is Quiet by Dianna Aston, which my sister gave to the boys along with A Seed Is Sleepy. I found an original version of  The Burgess Bird Book for Children at the library, with its beautiful illustrations. (You can also find the first few stories for free on Amazon Kindle.) My mother lent me her copy of True Nature by Barbara Bash, an illustrated nature journal -- and she gave me the sweet bird's nest and eggs.

It's not quite this amazing nature collection, but it's a start!

Birds, Nests & Eggs
(Take-Along Guides)We're also reading Even an Ostrich Needs a Nest: Where Birds Begin by Irene Kelly, and awaiting a few more from the library: Birds, Nests & Eggs by Mel Boring -- a take-along nature guide, Egg Drop by Mini Grey -- about an egg that wanted to fly, The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett -- the story of a drake who is feeling left out, and Eggs by Marilyn Singer.

We gave the boys Professor Noggin's Birds of North America card game for Christmas, and it's time to break it out and actually play it!

And I just love this sweet birdie sweater.

(Disclosure: Supposedly, if you follow the Amazon links and buy any of these books, I will get a few pennies, but it hasn't happened yet. ;)

What a great selection of books. We like an egg is quiet here too. Just as an aside, the Burgess Bird Book is available for free online here too http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=burgess&book=bird&story=_contents

I love browsing through the selection of other free books at the Baldwin project too.

Oh Ms. Amanda...have you been going through those books of yours for the furture homeschool curriculum/items yard sale??? I am definitely going to do this in May. I just have to come up with a date. Got any ideas-can't be the weekend of the 14th as got plans. I am weeding out. Actually sold with a net of $32 so far from weeding out curriculum. But then we went to Border's Teacher's Appreciation Week and spent $137 (: We got 4 baby chicks that we bought up here. Plan to buy 4 more tomorrow and impatiently waiting for some to hatch. Should be in the next week if it is going to happen??? Miss not seeing you all! Working 6 days a week through the month of April for sure. Call me! Christina
P.S. Sent a message on our blog but don't think you have been looking there recently.

We had a nature table up this year, now I'm totally inspired again!

Thanks for the comment. I was wondering about milk. What type you drink? There's so many types of milks and I'm not sure what is the best for the kids and the family. Difficult decision.

We went vegetarian a couple of years ago for about 6 months, and being involved in church so much- it was really difficult. There are sooo many get togethers and events where meat was constantly tempting us. Not only that, people act like we're weird if we didn't want to eat it.

Spectacular. I, too, have had a hard time figuring out where to put a nature table. My problem is finding a place where certain little hands can't reach but others can ;). Maybe it's just not in the cards for now and we'll need to wait another couple of years. Either way, I love what you have done here.
