So, for the last year or more, I have dumped kitchen scraps into random bowls and colanders before taking them out to the compost. Sometimes these open bowls have sat on the counter for longer than necessary, marring the aesthetics of my kitchen with their messy, smelly, visible contents.
My mother, being quite aesthetically aware, even gifted, found this red metal bucket the other day. I'm sure she as tired of seeing my messy bowls as I was.
Isn't it adorable? It holds at least a full day's worth of (non-chicken-worthy) scraps for the compost -- and no smell! Thanks, Mom!
ok- this is hilarious! my mom bought me a counter top composter because she, like your mom, was tired of seeing my compost bowl too. hey, at least i put a dish cloth over it to keep out the gnats! funny!
ReplyDeleteYour welcome my dear daughter! It was my pleasure.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea for the compost scraps. I love the color.
ReplyDeleteI like it:)
ReplyDeleteThat's cute. I keep mine in a plastic jug that used to be for tea or koolaid. Though, I have a habit of moving it to an unnoticeable place when company comes and then forgetting where I put it. LOLOL
ReplyDeleteLove it. We keep using old coffee cans--which are really quite ugly. That is too cute.
ReplyDeleteMine goes into a bowl too. On occasion I undertake the arduous task of cleaning said bowl. Most times I don't.
ReplyDeleteI think if I had a bucket with a lid it would stay even longer on my counter! ;)

Hi, I found your blog thru a comment you made on Simple Green Frugal....I just wanted to say that I LOVE this container. Much better looking than the old plastic coffee jar that I use....I want one!
ReplyDeleteI *love* it! Now you just need another one for the chook scraps (in a different colour of course) :-D

Oh I am so there too! I use colanders, bowls, or just whatever is available at the time. I definitely need something like this myself for my counter and scraps for the compost pile. It's now on my "list" for the next shopping trip!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I used to do the bowl thing- you are right, it would get stinky, but my MIL gave me one of their old gallon ice cream containers...it works great- but this is too cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of the plastic coffee canister that my friend gave me for compost. I really like this!
ReplyDeleteFound you through Crunchy Chicken, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnway, have read through your blog for the past hour and think you have an amazing life.
God Bless You!
That is gorgeous and I'm getting one like that for my mom. Ours is an old licorice container from costco and it's totally ugly
ReplyDeleteI would love one of those! I keep looking at one on Williams Sonoma but it's like $50! So...I end up throwing stuff in the trash which is technically illegal here in Germany!
